China vows GMO crackdown amid illegal planting |

China has vowed to crack down on the cultivation of genetically modified crops after several instances of illegal planting of unapproved strains of corn and soybeans in the country.

The New Yorker reported in August 2015 that despite major national worries over food supplies, public skepticism and worries over GMO foods remain prevalent in China. The last commercial licence issued to a GMO product was to papaya in 2006.
